Anxiety - Acknowledgement, Acceptance, & Awareness

Updated: Aug 15, 2021

Hi, Susannah here. Okay, this is a tough one. This is mainly a message to say 'You can do it!' Everything is a choice in life and once you have the tools to face a challenge I believe you can be unstoppable! Here are some tools that have helped me in my fights against stress and anxiety and life's challenges. So I'm just going to lay it out and would like to touch back on this down the line and continue our conversations of being a human with the visions of Nopal. I've mentioned a little bit before that, like everyone, I have my own carpetbag of past traumas and troubles. Though I believe I was born with a lean towards anxiety already but added human trial and tribulation my anxiety as an adult and entrepreneur have been through the roof. As a business owner and someone who has experienced severe traumas….

taking things personally and hurting my perception of myself because of listening to the exterior heightened this stress more... I suffer from depression, PTSD, kidney deterioration, arthritis, and of course Anxiety. Here are some pieces of info about what I've learned on my journey of awareness.

Anxiety, like mental health in general, is in fact given a 'general' opinion and a very light impression of how important it is on the health scale. How I and Nopal view anxiety and stress is it is one of the fathers of all negativity. Whether it is health negativity, mental fog, kinetic, astral - Anxiety breeds negativity. Negativity breeds unhealthy decisions, lifestyles, diets, cancer, heart problems, skin deficiency, and overall health and brain function. Anxiety Ages YOU! Anxiety by definition is the mind and body's reaction to stressful, dangerous, or unfamiliar situations. It's the sense of uneasiness, distress, or dread you feel before a significant event.

Anxiety like anger and ego are there for a reason. It can help us to be alert and problem solve however, like all emotions there is a time and a place. Often when Anxiety comes in unexpectedly scientists are discovering that in fact by simply acknowledging your stressed presence can decrease your stress almost instantly by this one step. For many of us though anxiety is impolite and rears its head in everyday situations that later coming out of you see that your anxiety may have taken literal and actual control of the situation and may have created another negative monster in doing so. aka The Holidays, ha!

Why do we get anxious? That is a personal question we all have to answer once we have acknowledged that we have a tendency for anxiety. Where do I get anxious? What am I eating or did I work out today before I blew up and my mom making plans last minute and not letting me know. Once you've answered the 'whens' of your anxiety the next step is to inhale and exhale. Remember you are human and that you deserve grace and peace and you are helping your anxiety by asking yourself the next questions: to start for now ask the Whys:

1: Why did I choose to argue in aggression or flea rather than address the uncomfortable situation? Fight or Flight.

2: Did I hurt someone the way I acted? Why did this situation make me feel hurt- Have I been hurt in a similar situation in the past? Prevent the victim from becoming the victimizer and take responsibility for how you may be affecting yourself or others. one of your first steps in awareness.

-Write down your hurts and come back to them when you are ready and ask how these situations made you feel.

3: How did I react in past situations of stress, what was my environment, who was I associated with that made me forget my human code?

So often anxiety is perceived as an outside invasion to the inward mind however, it's often how the inward mind perceives the external to how one is feeling. Here is your final question.

4: Was my ego or insecurities involved with my reaction? What are my insecurities?

What's next? time to ask yourself that. What is my point of action from here now that I know I can get out of this mess? Therapy, acupuncture, yoga, hobbies, reading, quitting social media, travel, group activity- there are a few but dive into your subconscious and ask yourself what is healthy and creates calm for you- can it help you navigate a disruptive scenario? What I have done is to give myself little but firm rules on allowing myself to get into situation where my anxiety can get higher and go into a more prepared state of mind with my boundaries intact.

By Acknowledging differents shadows parts of myself I was able to identify lighter parts of my personality to bend the tides and try to adjust. Only by truly asking myself dark questions was I able to begin to find the light in my life that I frankly thought was a big fat sham. By acknowledging, accepting, and being aware of my anxiety I have been able to help my brain and my body as it is more balanced and healthier. Here is a bit more of the actual science behind Anxiety this section was written by Live Science

High levels of anxiety might really make you age faster, a new study suggests.

'The study found a link between a common form of anxiety called phobic anxiety — an unreasonable fear of certain situations, such as crowds, heights or the outside world — and shorter telomeres in middle-aged and older women. Telomeres are caps on the ends of chromosomes that protect the genetic material from damage.

"Many people wonder about whether — and how — stress can make us age faster," said study researcher Dr. Olivia Okereke, a psychiatrist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "This study is notable for showing a connection between a common form of psychological stress — phobic anxiety — and a plausible mechanism for premature aging," Okereke said.

Telomeres generally shorten as we age, and among people of the same age, shortened telomeres have been linked to an increased risk of cancers, heart disease, dementia and overall risk of death.

However, the researchers emphasized that the study only shows an association, not a cause-effect link, and it's possible that people with shorter telomeres are generally prone to experiencing more stress. Studies that follow people forward over time are needed to confirm the findings.

Okereke and colleagues analyzed information from 5,243 women ages 42 to 69 years, who took part in the Nurses' Health Study. To measure participants' levels of phobic anxiety, researchers looked at their answers to questions such as "Do you have an unreasonable fear of being in enclosed spaces?" and "Do you feel panicky in crowds?"

The researchers found a link between high scores on the questionnaire and shorter telomeres.

The difference in telomere lengths between women who were highly phobic and those who were not as similar to what would be expected between women about six years apart in age.

The findings held even after the researchers accounted for factors that might influence the length of telomeres, such as participants' smoking, body mass indexes, physical activity levels, and the age of participants' fathers when their children were born.

The researchers noted they did not take into account whether participants experienced depression, which may have affected the results. '
